Arizona Attorney General Warns of COVID Test Scams

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich is warning residents about recent scams associated with coronavirus test results.

Scammers may be calling individuals claiming they have their COVID‑19 test results, but in reality they are trying to get patients’ personal information or tricking them into paying money, Brnovich said in a press release.

“Unfortunately, whenever there’s a crisis it brings out the best in some people and the worst in other people,” Brnovich said. “We have seen the scammers now trying to prey on the COVID pandemic.”

According to Brnovich, scammers are targeting patients’ Social Security Numbers, banking information, and even Medicare account information. A testing facility will not request any of this information.

Brnovich added the testing facilities are there to provide insight, not extract information.

If anyone calls you about your COVID-19 test results, Brnovich advises hanging up and confirming with your insurance provider, doctor, or the Department of Health Services.
