Arizona Ranks on List of Top 10 States Millenials are Moving To

While Arizona signifies a golden opportunity for those looking to retire and enjoy their later years of life, a younger crowd has been flocking to the state as well.

According to a Smart Asset study, Arizona ranks sixth among states millennials are moving to.

Using the most recent Census Bureau data from 2018, roughly 67,547 individuals between the ages of 25 and 39 moved to Arizona in the year, the study found. Additionally, only about 55,083 moved out of the state.

There was a net migration of about 12,464 millennials into the state, edging out states such as North Carolina, Nevada and Tennessee.

Texas took home the top spot with 53,558 millennials moving to the state.

Looking at Arizona’s cities, Phoenix ranked as the top location for millennials in the state, landing at eighth nationally.

More than 6,500 people between the ages of 25 and 29 moved to the Valley city in 2018 from a different state, the study found. Close to 4,300 30- to 34-year-olds, and more than 3,900 35- to 39-year-olds also moved to the city.

A total of about 14,800 millennials moved to Phoenix from a different state in 2018, while about 11,900 left the city. Phoenix’s net migration during that year sat close to 2,900 millennials.

Seattle saw the greatest migration rate, with over 11,000 millennials moving to the city. Phoenix ranked higher than the likes of Paradise, Nevada, and Columbus, Ohio.

Not far behind Phoenix was Mesa, ranking 15th with a 2,316 migration rate. Chandler (1,533) and Scottsdale (1,439) also made the top 25, ranking 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
