3 million people annually in the United States are diagnosed with Basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer. Another staggering statistic is that one American dies every hour of skin cancer. And one in 3 people in Arizona are diagnosed with some form of skin cancer.

With May being national Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and as we start Summer 2020, we have compiled a list of dermatologist recommended options on how to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful UV rays while still enjoying the summer.

As the temperatures climb, are you prepared to protect your skin from the sun this season? It’s hard to know which SPF sunscreen brands are the best. There are also choices of sprays, lotions or sticks.

Sarah Neumann, MMS-PA-C, Physician Assistant of Ahwatukee Skin & Laser says, “Not all sunscreen is created equal.” Sarah stresses the importance when looking for sunscreen, to find one that contains 5% Micronized Titanium or Zinc Oxide. These two components bounce the UV rays off and helps to protect your skin.

Most dermatologist will say that many patients tend to complain about how sunscreen feels on their skin, how it smells and how irritating it can be. All valid excuses but it is very important to protect your skin and to find, buy and use a type of sunscreen that you will wear. Many patients will use excuses just not to wear it, however thankfully we now have so many different options to choose from.

To help you find the perfect formula that you’ll use, here is a list of dermatologist recommended favorites:
