Arizonans who have lost their jobs or are struggling financially due to the coronavirus outbreak still have options when it comes to accessing health care.

Arizona Complete Health is encouraging residents to apply for the state’s Medicaid program – the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System.

Arizona Complete Health’s Vice President of Legislative & Government Affairs Monica Coury said that AHCCCS has suspended premiums during the current health crisis. The suspension of premiums also extends to KidsCare, AHCCCS’ health insurance for those 18 years old and younger.

Coury says residents can still qualify if their work hours have been cut and they earn about $25,000 a year.

“The good news about AHCCCS is that your eligibility goes back to the beginning of the month in which you applied,” Coury said.

If an individual does not qualify for ACCESS, their online application goes straight to the federal health insurance marketplace.

Coury also says thousands of these new applicants are also applying for unemployment insurance.

“The cause of the economic downturn is related to a healthcare issue,” she said. “You want to make sure you’re protected, and your family is protected should something happen to you from a healthcare perspective.”
