Arizona is working  to keep our health care professionals safe.

Today, Gov. Doug Ducey said that Arizona has received a shipment of medical supplies from a national stockpile and more are on the way as our state braces for additional cases of the new coronavirus.

Arizona’s reported coronavirus case count has increased to and has the first official death  throughout the state Saturday. Public health officials have warned that the increase of cases could overwhelm medical professionals and strain supplies.

Hospital health care workers across the state have expressed concerns about low levels of protective gear, including masks and gowns, that were in high demand across the world.

Ducey said the state will receive:

-60,000+ N95 masks
-244,000 Surgical face masks
-26,000 Face shields
-22,000 Surgical gowns
-90,000 Sets of gloves

Ducey announced that the shipment Arizona is receiving represents about a quarter of Arizona’s share of the stockpile. The supplies arrived this weekend and will be distributed to the state’s 15 counties on Monday.

“Arizona is working to keep our health professionals safe,” Ducey said in announcing the shipment. “This shipment from the Strategic National Stockpile includes thousands of masks, face shields, surgical gowns, gloves and more — and we are working to get these supplies where they are needed as soon as possible.”
