The Maricopa County Library District and Phoenix Public Library Libraries across the Valley announced Sunday that they are closing libraries due to the continued coronavirus concerns.

All libraries will be closed until further notice, however patrons can still access their digital resources as they will still be available for customers during the closures.

Additional valley libraries have also announced closures. Libraries in Surprise. Mesa and Gilbert will also be closed until further notice. Tempe Public Library announced their locations will be closed until at least March 27.

The closures come after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced a recommendation to cancel or postpone gatherings for more than 50 people for at least the next eight weeks.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey responded by recommending a statewide suspension of all large public events during that time.

To help contain the spread of COVID-19 and other diseases spread through respiratory droplets, including the flu, health officials have issued the following recommendations:

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Refrain from touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Don’t make close contact with sick individuals.
  • If you are sick, stay home.
  • Cover coughs or sneezes with a tissue and throw the tissue away.
  • Clean and disinfect objects that are frequently touched.
