Focused on healthy living both physically and mentally, an adult community center has opened a location in central Phoenix.

This marks OptumCare Arizona’s fourth location here in the Valley.

“Anyone over the age of 55 can just come on in and engage with their peers or neighbors, socialize or engage in one of our classes,” Ben Brock with OptumCare Arizona said.

The facility includes a fitness center and a variety of fitness classes such as Tai Chi, Pilates, line dancing and Zumba Gold. Other activities include quilting, knitting, crocheting, arts and craft classes, presentations on health topics and weekly movies.

The best part is that membership is completely free.

“There is absolutely zero charge to engage in any of our classes, participate in our fitness center, or just to come in and have a cup of coffee,” Brock added.

OptumCare Arizona, part of health services and innovation company Optum, is a group of doctors, advanced care providers, specialists and hospitals who work together to provide Medicare-eligible patients with personalized and collaborative medical care.

The brand-new facility is located near 12th Street and Glendale Avenue. Other locations can be found in north Phoenix, Goodyear, and Chandler.

Cindy Butler has been a member for three years at the Goodyear location. She said her favorite class is called brain savers.

“It’s socialization, you’re in a group,” Butler said. “You have brain activities and physical activities.”

She also added that it’s not just about going to OptumCare for a workout. She said he has made lifelong friends and it gives her something to look forward to and engage in.
