Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon Arizona: Phoenix & Tempe To Have Road Closures
The Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon & 1/2 Marathon will be this weekend, January 18-19, 2020. This annual event provides a world-class event atmosphere for participants while combining running and entertainment.
The annual event has become a popular event due to Arizona’s beautiful backdrop and weather. The event offers a Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and KiDS Rock, literally something for everyone. An assortment of live music and local high school cheerleading squads are staged approximately every mile of the 26.2 and 13.1-mile courses. The marathon begins in Phoenix, races through Scottsdale and finishes in Tempe. The ½ marathon course begins and ends in Tempe.
Due to the size of the event, there is a lot that valley residents need to know about the weekend long event due to the many road closures that will impact drivers.
The Rock ‘N’ Roll Arizona event kicks off on Friday at 1pm with a Health & Fitness Expo on Day 1. The event will run until 7pm at the Phoenix Convention Center.
Residents and businesses located near the race course are urged to be aware and plan ahead to be in the know about the many road closure schedules and alternate access routes.
Most road closures and detours will be in effect between the hours of 6:00 am and 3:30 pm. All races on Sunday will start at 7:50 am, and streets will reopen on a rolling basis as soon as the last participant has passed and all course support materials have been removed. Streets along the earlier miles of the route will open earlier than roads along the end of the route. Please review the road closure grid and course map for more information.
Residents in The Upper Middle will be impacted in the Arcadia Area between 48th Street, 64th Street, Indian School Rd and Van Buren St.
During the race, residents can leave/enter the area by the following options:
A. Use Eastbound Thomas Blvd to 64th Street. Drivers will be allowed to turn left onto 64th Street from eastbound Thomas Blvd. From 64th Street, turn right onto Osborn Road to gain access to highway 101.
B. Use 52nd Street south to West bound 202. You will only be able to travel WEST on the 202 from this point.
C. To enter the area please use the 52nd Street exit from Eastbound 202.
*Please note: the 52nd Street EXIT is open from EASTBOUND 202 ONLY. 52nd Street exit is not accessible via WESTBOUND 202.
The following are additional details of specific areas that will be impacted during the race time:
