With a high number of families expected to visit for Thanksgiving, St. Mary’s Food Bank is asking the community to help it reach its turkey donation goal.

The food bank is asking for 10,000 turkeys by Turkey Day so that it can match its total of 12,000 from last year, according to a press release.

St. Mary’s says it has only collected about 2,000 turkeys so far.

Turkeys, canned food and cash donations are being accepted at both St. Mary’s locations — in Phoenix at 2831 N. 31st Ave. and in Surprise at 13050 West Elm St. — from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

The food bank is distributing Thanksgiving meals on three days this year — from Nov. 25 to 27.

The cost to put a turkey on the table for Thanksgiving is about $13, St. Mary’s said.

Organizations or individuals who plan to make large donations are asked to call St. Mary’s at 602-343-3160.
