Representatives from the Tonto National Forest have announced that Christmas tree permits will be sold beginning at 8 a.m. on Nov. 18.

The permits can be purchased in person for $15 with cash, credit card or personal check. They will be available at the supervisor’s office at 2324 E. McDowell Road in Phoenix, in addition to three ranger districts.

Mesa ranger district (5140 E. Ingram Street), Payson ranger district (1009 E. Highway 260) and Cave Creek ranger district (40202 N Cave Creek Road) will be selling permits from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Keep in mind that each district has varying lunch hours ranging from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The Payson district will also sell permits on Saturdays beginning Nov. 23 through Dec. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A permit will allow holders to cut one tree up to 10-feet within designated cutting zones. Zones will be displayed on maps that are given out when a permit is purchased.

Only one tree per household is allowed and up to four permits may be purchased per person for other households.

Fourth grade students can receive a free Christmas tree permit while they are available as part of the Every Kid Outdoors initiative. Children must be accompanied by an adult with their fourth grade voucher.

Forest officials recommend tree cutters plan ahead for weather conditions.
