Displaying plants in your home and garden can be such a mindless thing, but this simple act may threaten your pet’s health and wellbeing.

It is easy to create a pet-friendly environment in your home and garden once you are aware of which plant species are a cause for hazard.

Since Aug. 1, 2017, the Pet Poison Helpline has received 1,284 calls from Arizona residents, 100 of those due to plants.

Rover.com lists those plants that caused the poisonings:

-Lilium species (non-specific)

-Oleander (Nerium oleander)

-Lantana species

-Sago/Cycad palm, Cardboard palm, Coontie plant (Cycas or Zamia species)

-Tulips (Tulipa species)

-Aloe (Aloe species)

-Chinaberry (Melia azedarach)

-Hibiscus species

It is always best to do an internet search of whether or not a plant is safe for your cat or dog, before you plant it in your garden or introduce it into your home, just to be safe.
