Arizona Cardinals Introduce ‘Touchdowns for Teachers’ Program

Next time the Arizona Cardinals score a touchdown, it will impact more than just the score of the game. With the help of the Salt River Project, the Cardinals have introduced their brand new program, ‘Touchdowns for Teachers’.

For every touchdown the Cards make this season, two Arizona teachers will receive $500 each. The more the Cards reach the end zone, the more money raised for teachers to use to improve their classrooms and students’ learning experiences. This means Game One’s tie against the Detroit Lions brought in $2,000 for four Arizona teachers.

“It’s amazing how far $500 can go for a teacher,” said Kevin Rolfe, with SRP Community Relations and a former teacher for 14 years in Chandler.

“The average in Arizona was about $700 teachers spend of their own money, so if we can help off-set that then the program is a success,” said Rolfe. “Every year I would spend pretty close to $1,000 out of my own pocket on basic materials, whether it was pens, sometimes paper, sometimes folders, sometime books.”

This program will help keep teachers’ focus off of worrying about having to use their own money for supplies and get back to doing what they do best… teaching.

“The SRP Touchdowns for Teachers is a fun way to celebrate all the ways teachers guide the next generation of innovators and leaders,” Kevin Rolfe, SRP senior education representative, said in a press release. “While we are cheering on the Cardinals, we can also award our teachers.”

Teachers who are employed at a public, charter or non-profit private school in SRP’s service territory can register to win a grant. SRP is encouraging their customers to share the program with Arizona teachers that have impacted their lives and are deserving of the grant.
