FinanceBuzz, an informational website that provides everything from up-to-date simple tips and free advice to help consumers make prudent financial decisions recently compared average domestic airfares from the 45 busiest airports in the U.S. to learn which airports are the most and least expensive.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport came in at #20 with an average airfare of $338.57. McCarran Airport in Las Vegas topped the list with the cheapest fare ($240.35). The most expensive was Washington Dulles Airport ($427.37).

FinanceBuzz pointed out that even though some airports on the list offer cheaper airfares, it’s important for consumers to remember that ticket prices are just the starting point, and oftentimes they don’t account for all of the extra fees charged by the airports. For instance, some airlines make up to half of their revenue from additional fees like in-flight wifi, pillows/blankets, beverages and even carry-on bags.

Fortunately, it’s still possible to find deals at most airports with some research and planning. Setting price alerts is the best way to receive notifications when airfares drop. Another popular technique to save on airfare involves using credit card points to book flights. Some cards even provide sign-up bonuses that are the equivalent of a free flight.
