Maricopa County Shelter Needs Your Help

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control‘s Phoenix location needs your help.

The shelter is filling up quickly because of a quarantine at its Mesa location. The Mesa shelter has had several dogs treated for distemper, an upper respiratory infection. Adoptions are temporarily paused at the Mesa location until all of the dogs can be re-vaccinated. They also can’t accept new animals, which is causing the Phoenix shelter to reach maximum occupancy.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, MCACC, says they are working to try to get animals housed at boarding facilities, but they need the public’s help. There has been one case of distemper at the Phoenix site, but it was traced back to the Mesa shelter. There are no plans to close the Phoenix shelter at this time. Dogs that have the symptoms of a URI are being given antibiotics and medication will be given to adopters.

Animals that are 20lbs or more can be adopted for a $21 license fee. Animals that are 19lbs or less can be adopted for $50. Animal services, like licensing, can be scheduled at the Phoenix location at 2500 S 27th Ave.
