Officers Buckling Down On Seat Belt Law

Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

A bill was recently signed that limited the use of handheld devices while driving in Arizona. Law enforcement officers have partnered with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to start another initiative meant to keep you safe on the road.

The campaign is called “Buckle Up Arizona… It’s the Law!,” and it’s back through June 2.

Arizona has a no-tolerance policy when it comes to seat belt and child safety usage.

According to statistics from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, seat belt usage reduces serious injuries and deaths by 50%.

Child seats and restraints reduce serious injury or death by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers.

The campaign began again after Gov. Doug Ducey’s signed House Bill 2318. The bill bans texting and driving. The bill was signed into law four months after a Valley police officer was killed by a fellow motorist who was using his phone while driving. The campaign is funded by the Governor’s Office of highway Safety, which is a statewide initiative that is part of the national “Click it or Ticket” campaign.
